Learning and development professionals spend a great deal of time designing what I like to refer to as “blind training,” – training that does not align with key strategic initiatives. This design approach makes it difficult to engage key stakeholders, transfer the learning objectives to the learner’s job function, and demonstrate the necessary ROI to sustain the training initiative. This session provides insight on how to understand the focus areas of executive leadership to support an efficient and effective leadership development training program.

Dr. Kristal Walker has worked in the learning and development space for over 15 years helping clients engage people, apply processes, and implement technology to improve human and organizational performance in the private sector, nonprofit, and higher education industries. Currently, she is the Director of Professional Development at Guitar Center—the largest music retailer in the country. As a key player within the Guitar Center University team, she creates leadership, talent management, and general professional development programs, tools, and resources for nearly 11,000 existing and emerging organizational leaders and retail associates.
A teacher by trade and an entrepreneur by temperament, Dr. Walker's ultimate goal iis to prepare individuals both personally and professionally for advancement opportunities through practical applications of training, development, and career coaching.
Dr. Walker earned an undergraduate degree in human services, a graduate degree in management and organizational leadership, and a doctorate of management degree in organizational leadership.

Parking: The entrance to the parking structure is from Uplander or from Slauson. Enter the parking structure for 400 Corporate Pointe and please park on Levels 6 or 7 only. The entrance to the campus is from the 4th floor of the parking garage, across the courtyard and through the glass doors. Please bring your parking ticket with you to Campus Services to purchase an all-day discounted parking pass for $7 (cash or check, no credit cards please). Campus Services is located on the 1st floor of the campus. When you enter the building, make a right before the elevators and follow the hallway down and around to the left. You will see our large Campus Services office suite to your right.
Metered street parking is also available, as well as free street parking on Hannum Ave between Bristol Pkwy and Uplander Way. It is a 5 minute walk.
