Analyzing Your Learners: The First Step to Creating Effective Learning Experiences
Have you ever worked really hard to create training only to see mediocre results? You had solid learning objectives, you had good content, and you made it interactive, so, what went wrong? Could it be that you didn’t really know your learner audience before you started designing training for them? Analyzing your learner group is one of the first things we should do as instructional designers/trainers but is often overlooked or just briefly considered. Before you begin to design an effective learning event, you should know enough about your learners to choose the best ways to introduce and engage them with course content. In this session, we will discuss the importance of analyzing your learner audience before you begin to design, some specific questions you should explore to get to know them, and the use of learning personas to become more focused on the learners in the training design process. WHO SHOULD ATTEND: Any person that wears hats as a technical/subject matter expert, team leader, and trainer and would like actionable tips for developing positive learning experiences. OUR SPEAKER:
Caryn Nadeau is an ATD Certified Professional in Talent Development (CPTD) with over 20 years of experience in Learning and Development. She is skilled in the instructional design and development of training in multiple formats, including web-based training, both synchronous (webinars) and non-synchronous (eLearning); and instructor-led, in-person training. Currently, she is a Sr. Instructional Designer and thrilled to be creating interactive learning experiences at SoCal Gas.
